School Without Walls Service

In line with GWDebate’s dedication to service learning, students from our team volunteer with the public-forum debate team at School Without Walls, a high school located on The George Washington University campus. A senior member of our team, Anisha Sahni, is currently the coach for the School Without Walls debate team. Other members help her coordinate practice debates, lectures, and other forms of debate education to give back to the debate community.

Transatlantic Dialogues

Founded by Ecole de Guerre and The George Washington University, Transatlantic Dialogues for Future Leaders is an annual intercollegiate dialogue series bringing together US and European university students to analyze and discuss important transatlantic topics.

Schuman Challenge

The Schuman Challenge is an annual competition organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the United States in which teams of undergraduate students respond to a topic impacting transatlantic relations and present and defend their response before a panel of senior topic stakeholders. Since its founding, our society has partnered with the Elliott School of International Affairs to organize GW’s entry, including the 2021 Schuman Challenge Champions!


Social Justice Debates

The Social Justice Debates are an annual intercollegiate debate series founded by Morehouse College and The George Washington University. The only intercollegiate debate series in the world dedicated to social justice topics, the Social Justice Debates aspire to promote productive and rigorous debates challenging current and future thought leaders to consider issues of justice in relation to the distribution of wealth, opportunity, and privilege in U.S. society.

Lafayette Debates

The Lafayette Debates is an international platform for student dialogue and debate founded by the Embassy of France to the United States and The George Washington University in the belief that now, more than ever, a vigorous and respectful transatlantic dialogue is of the utmost importance not only to the citizens of France and the United States, but also the world.

C40 Reinventing Cities

The C40 Students Reinventing Cities Competition challenged over 1,000 students from across the globe to join the debate over sustainable urban development. In partnership with GWU Sustainable Urban Planning Program and Université PSL, our team engaged Ivy City stakeholders to create a design emphasizing equity through mobility, community, and sustainability, won the C40 competition for Ivy City, published a TED Talk on our initiative, and will be organizing an Ivy City public forum for residents and stakeholders later this year.

Los Diálogos Panamericanos

Los Diálogos Panamericanos: Paz y Pandemia is an international bilingual debate, dialogue, and deliberation series addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and its ramifications for the Colombian peace-building process. Organized by The George Washington University Debate & Literary Society, the George Washington University Peace Studies Program, Universidad de los Andes, and Universidad del Rosario, the program brings together students from the United States and Colombia to engage, research and discuss the challenges raised by the pandemic to peace and unity in Colombia. Los Diálogos Panamericanos: Paz y Pandemia is a follow-up to last year's pilot program, What We Owe.
